Boxwood is owned by John Kent Cooke, son of the late Jack Kent Cook, former owner of the Redskins. Here you will be tempted with old world Bordeaux style red wines as you tour the contrasting state of the art facility.
Leaving the ultra-modern Boxwood winery you will take a journey deeper into the Hunt Country to experience some of the most unique and fascinating horse related events in the United States. Middleburg Spring Races - April 18

Middleburg Stable Tour - May 23
The Middleburg Stable Tour* opens the doors once a year to America’s most memorable estates and equestrian facilities. Walk through the private estates and multi-million dollar equestrian facilities while experiencing the hunt country up close and in a personal way. Your Vino Virginia experience provides you access to the Stable Tour on Saturday and Sunday (Sunday’s tour is self guided).

Upperville Colt & Horse Show - June 6
The Upperville Colt & Horse Show*, founded in 1853, is the oldest horse show in the United States. Steeped in tradition, it extends a full seven days, and involves over two thousand horse and rider combinations from young children on ponies to leading Olympic and World Cup riders and horses (of course we will only attend one day). Held, under The Oaks, in Upperville at the magnificent and prestigious Grafton and Salem Farms we will enjoy this yearly tradition that has continued for 162 years.

National Sporting Library & Museum - October 10
You will take a guided tour at the historic 1804 house that is home to the National Sporting Library & Museum (NSL). This facility is not your typical museum and instead displays horse and field themed exhibits including literature, art, and sculptures. Your tour may take you through the rare book room, the gallery and viewing of the famous Nic Fiddan-Green – Still Water sculpture while leaving you time to enjoy the art and literature on your own.

Continuing your hunt country adventure, you will be taken a short distance to Greenhill Winery. Here, you will enjoy tasting their premium selection of red & white wines including their refreshing sparkling wine, a rare treat in Virginia. Experience the wines created by Sebastien Marquet who hails from Burgundy while enjoying your tasting in the exclusive member’s only pre-revolutionary war stone house. As your senses are delighted and tempted you can take in the countryside and enjoy your newly purchased bottle of wine over some gourmet charcuterie.
